在 80 及 90 年代，黃胸鵐（禾花雀）曾是香港農地的常見冬候鳥。可惜，由於全球性的非法獵捕與都市發展，濕地面積急劇萎縮。在短短 30 年間，這種鳥類的全球數量大幅銳減了驚人的 80% 至 90%。
儘管許多國家如今已制定保育法例，但黑市獵捕與城市化進程，依然讓這些農地鳥類的復育之路舉步維艱。每年秋天，牠們都會從西伯利亞飛行數千公里前往東南亞越冬。而位於上水河上鄉的塱原稻田，正是牠們這趟史詩級遷徙途中至關重要的「加油站」。
