Back in the 80s and 90s, the Yellow-breasted Bunting (affectionately known as the "Rice Bird") was a regular winter visitor to Hong Kong’s farmlands. Sadly, due to global illegal hunting and urban development, wetlands have drastically shrunk. In just 30 short years, the global population of these birds plummeted by an alarming 80–90%. It is truly heartbreaking.

Although many countries have now enacted conservation laws, black-market poaching and urbanization continue to make the path to recovery incredibly difficult for these farmland birds. Every autumn, they fly thousands of miles from Siberia down to Southeast Asia to spend the winter. The paddy fields in Ho Sheung Heung, Sheung Shui, serve as a vital "refueling station" during their epic migration!

To support the Ho Sheung Heung Nature Conservation Management Project, Pair Pair Full has teamed up with the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society and The Conservancy Association to create this limited-edition "Fate Bunt" socks!

💡 About the Ho Sheung Heung Nature Conservation Management Project

Local on-site conservation efforts began back in 2005 with government funding. In 2008, traditional methods were first used to trial the revival of rice farming, with the specific goal of protecting the Yellow-breasted Bunting, farmland birds, and amphibians. Since then, we have made an annual autumn promise to meet again with these beautiful birds.

By 2020, the project transitioned to being funded by the Countryside Conservation Funding Scheme. In response to the development of Long Valley Nature Ecological Park, the conservation scope now focuses squarely on Ho Sheung Heung, continuing to dedicate efforts to rice farming revival and bird conservation!
